Instagram … It’s all about the little things

Photography for me is all about memories and those memories can be of the smallest parts of your life, or the big moments. Even if I don’t have my professional cameras with me, I always have my phone to capture things that inspire and motivate me. For a few years, I have aimed to create a ‘Photo A Day’ with my phone and post them to my Instagram account. These are not my ‘pro’ images but I love them just as much. Looking back, I can see what I am drawn to, what style I shoot instinctively in and each little crop holds a memory for me of what I was doing in 2014.

Photo a day categories

With over 1500 images taken on my phone in 2014, I thought it would be nice to share my favourites and offer my tips if you are thinking of taking up a challenge to take a photo a day for 2015:

Capture the little details as well as the big landscapes.

Look everywhere around you and at all different angles.

Think of colours, textures and light.

Use spare time when you are waiting for something to photograph anything around you.

Set yourself some categories to aim for.

Use your phone as a visual diary of your year.

Have fun. It is your camera / phone. Capture what inspires your personality.

Don’t forget to back up your images. (I see so many cameras and phones with 100s of images on that are never saved anywhere else and they are known to get lost or broken.)
