I always knew 2017 was going to be a very different year for me running Joanne Withers Photography and true to my expectations it was and it was a year of change. I had to take a little pause on the business because from the first night we moved up to Cumbria, we realised that setting up St Marks Stays was going to be a bigger commitment than we thought. So with Damian still needing to work full time, we decided it was best for me to take on our new business for the first year and not fully bring Joanne Withers Photography to the North for a short while.
So what did I learn in this time? Well, I learned I miss the smiles of children and the cuteness of dogs. I miss the beautiful emotions of wedding days and those days when I see the magic that happiness creates in families. I discovered a love for food photography and the beauty of working outdoors in the most spectacular of scenery. I also picked up my camera to capture imagery just for me and reminded myself how much personal projects can reignite your inspiration.
Despite not advertising myself up here in Cumbria, I have had some great work opportunities, met some fabulous entrepreneurs, made wonderful friends already and captured my first Cumbrian wedding. So for everyone who has supported me up here, I am sending a huge thank you.
Here are my favs of the year and with St Marks Stays opening in January 2018, I can’t wait to see what I will be photographing. Plus for those who need a Northern girl with a camera, I will be open for business and ready to inspire you.
